Rusty Simpson’s poem belongs on the street. Although, in all fairness, and honesty, Rusty called after he received my letter of congratulations and request for shirt size for his Department of Poetry Works t-shirt, and asked if I could send this sign with his poem to his mother who lives in Hilton Head and actually does have an alligator and tourists. I mean, oh yeah, we’re special. We have alligators. But alligators get around, you know. It’s a village bro. Anyway the idea with these poetry interventions is that they might just set a little literary spark going in someone. Encourage or propel them into thinking how neat it is for poetry and literature to weave it’s way into a street scene. Or at least bring a smile to someone’s face.  Make our city a nicer place.
